Broxterman leads Jets to MWHL championship; named MVP
AMES, Iowa - The Kansas City Jets won their second straight Midwest HS Hockey League championship, finishing off Waterloo 4-0 in the title game. IEG goaltender Zach Broxterman led the way and was named the tourney MVP.
Broxterman, who will graduate this spring, finished his senior year with a sterling 16-1 record. He produced a .938 save percentage and a GAA of 1.39. with five shutouts. He played in all of the Jets' playoff games, compiling a .971 save percentage and a 0.67 GAA and a pair of shutouts. The Jets defeated Cedar Rapids 3-0 in the opening round, beat Des Moines 4-2 in the semifinals before the championship game shutout.
Academically, Broxterman was presented with the Presidential Scholar Award for a 3.5 GPA across all four high school seasons.
Broxterman is slated to attend several junior hockey league tryout camps, and was invited to a select NCDC tryout with the Twin City Thunder in late May in Auburn, Maine. He plans on playing several seasons of junior hockey before finalizing his college plans.
